Chilicheese-potatoes walk the plank

nice side for grilldishes, simply mashed potatoes with cheese and chili, grilled on cedar plank for the lovely smokey touch. If you are lucky to have left-overs of mash – this is a hit to make them shine again!

You need:

  • 1 kg potatoes for mash
  • Milk 
  • Butter
  • 250gr grated mature cheddar cheese
  • 6-8 jalapeños
  • salt & white pepper 
  • 2 egg yolks 
  • Cedaeplank for the grill


  • Soak plank in water for 12 hrs (optional)
  • Peel taters and cut in pieces
  • In cold water, salt, cook evenly on low heat till taterpieces fall apart/easily mush
  • Jalapeños – remove seeds, chop finely
  • Pour water from the boiled taters and let dry a bit in pot – no heat on 
    You see how the taters already look like mashed 
  • Heat milk in another pot
  • Press taters through a puréepress down into the milk
  • Add pleanty of milk – don´t fret if wet – it will set 😉 
  • Season to your liking 
  • Now add the cheese, chilis, yolks and some generous dollops of butter 
  • Stir til you are content with the mash , let cool
  • Prepare grill for medium heat, direct (approx 250 grader)
  • Pipe the mash into small croquettes directly onto plank 
  • Put plank directly over heat, close lid, let cook/grill for about 20 minutes or to nice colouring 
  • It might come in handy to have a flask with water to spray on
  • gärna en blomspruta med vatten nära till hands om det skulle ta fyr i plankan.

Servera varma till valfri grillrätt.
